Hàm Trần

Hàm Trần is a Vietnamese-American filmmaker whose work bridges Hollywood craftsmanship with Vietnamese storytelling and cultural depth. He earned a MFA in film directing from the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television, where his thesis film The Anniversary was shortlisted for the Academy Award for Live Action Short Film. 

He began his career with Journey from the Fall which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2006.

In Vietnam, Hàm Trần has played a pivotal role in elevating local storytelling with international production standards. He wrote and directed “Tiệm ăn của quỷ” (Devil’s Diner), a genre-bridging horror series that became one of the most talked-about Vietnamese titles on Netflix, debuting globally across more than 190 countries and quickly becoming a streaming highlight during its initial release window. 

His 2025 film Tử chiến trên không (Hijacked) marked a transformative moment in his career and in Vietnamese cinema. The project was noted for its ambitious scale, immersive action, and narrative intensity, earning strong critical recognition, including awards at the 24th Vietnam Film Festival with Hàm Trần winning Best Director, and highlighted his ability to bring Vietnamese cinema to new technical and dramatic heights.
